Libya suspended air traffic in Mitiga airport, east of Tripoli on Sunday due to security reasons that are likely to be associated with the scheduled arrival of the UN-backed unity government in the city.

Libyan Airlines announced on its official Facebook page the suspension of all its flights due to air traffic monitoring.

The African Airlines has also announced on its Facebook page that it had received instructions from the Libyan civil aviation that it had closed the air space for incoming and outgoing civil air traffic.

Libya’s Al-Nabaa satellite channel reported the head of the Civil Aviation Authority, Yousef Qaseia, as saying that he had decided to suspend navigation for reasons of safety and security.
