Israelis have expressed dismay after an Egyptian shop owner named his store “Hitler” in Cairo.
Israel’s Yediot Ahronot newspaper reported on Sunday that Osama Farouk not only named his store located in downtown Cairo as Hitler but even used the swastika as the store’s logo.
According to the paper the store’s name was popular among Egyptians and foreigners alike while Farouk insists to retain the shop’s name despite objection. It pointed out shoppers frequented the store because of the quality of its clothes and not its name.
In 2012, an Indian man named his shop Hitler in the city of Ahmedabad, western India prompting the Israeli consul in Mumbai to formally protest to the Indian authorities. At the time, the consul has described the incident as “serious and very important”.
