The son of Egypt’s ousted President Mohamed Morsi said security forces have prevented his family from visiting his dad in Tora prison, south of Cairo.
In a post on facebook, Ahmad, Morsi’s eldest son, wrote: “This is the tenth time this Ramadan that we try to visit him but we always receive the same response, ‘visit to see him are prohibited by a sovereign body and we cannot do anything about it’.”
“I and my brothers, Abdullah and Omar, have tried to visit our father in Tora prison, but the security officials there said the visit is forbidden. The security authorities even refused to receive a bag of his belongings,” Ahmad told the Anadolu Agency.
Meanwhile an official security source who spoke on condition of anonymity told Anadolu that the Ministry of interior will investigate the incident and issue a formal statement if necessary.
In June, Morsi’s family said Egyptian authorities had prevented them from visiting him since November 2013.
