United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today announced that he would establish an internal UN board of inquiry to investigate a deadly attack on a humanitarian aid convoy in Syria and urged all parties to fully cooperate.
“The Board of Inquiry will ascertain the facts of the incident and report to the secretary-general upon the completion of its work. The secretary-ceneral will review the report and decide what further steps to take,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a statement.
On 19 September, the UN confirmed that a convoy that was delivering humanitarian aid to nearly 78,000 victims besieged in Aleppo, Syria, had been hit.
At least 18 of 31 trucks in a UN and Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) convoy were hit along with an SARC warehouse.
