French Armed Forces arrived in the United Arab Emirates yesterday to participate in a joint training programme as part of the “Gulf 2016” initiative, the state run WAM news agency reported.

This “is part of a plan to partake in shared training exercises with the aim of training on the planning, implementation and management of joint operations, as stipulated in the joint defence agreements signed between the two countries.”

“Gulf 2016” is part of a series of exercises and training plans which the UAE’s armed units will partake in with a number of countries, in the framework of cooperation, coordination and exchange of military expertise, according to the agency.

Emirati forces are currently partaking in the second week of joint training exercises in Bahrain as part of “Security of the Arab Gulf 1” along with six Gulf states.
