Egypt’s Prosecutor General Nabil Sadek has ordered to investigate into what has been falsely-announced in media about the release of Judge Tarek Mohamed Zaki, the so-called “cannabis judge”, who was arrested in possession of a large amount of cannabis.

Sadek said in a statement yesterday that the public prosecution has ordered his detention for four days pending investigation, confirming that he has not been released. He added that the General Prosecution would investigate the sources.

Judge Tarek Mohamed Zaki, chief of the Sharqiya Misdemeanour Court, was arrested by the Egyptian security forces early this month in possession of 68 kilogrammes of cannabis in his car in a tunnel between the provinces of Suez and North Sinai.
