A senior official in the Palestinian Authority said US President-elect Donald Trump will send a special envoy, likely to be his son-in-law Jared Kushner, to revive the peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

The official confirmed, in remarks to Gulf Online news site, that the new US administration headed by Trump has promised the Palestinian and Israeli sides to make serious steps in the coming weeks to get negotiations underway.

“Kushner, along with a US delegation, will hold separate meetings with the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an attempt to bridge the gap between the two sides with a new American vision,” the official said.

Trump said in a meeting with staffers from the New York Times last month: “I would love to be the one who made peace with Israel and the Palestinians, that would be such a great achievement.”
