The executive director of the Qatari sovereign wealth investment fund, Abdullah bin Mohamed Al Thani, revealed that firms connected to the fund had invested $33 billion in the United States since 2015, Al-Mesryoon.com reported yesterday.

During a speech at the second annual Qatar-US Economic and Investment Dialogue (EID), held in Doha, Al Thani said that the studies conducted by the fund showed that the US offered good and diverse investment opportunities.

Last year, the fund announced a plan to invest not less than $35 billion between 2015 and 2021, noting that the main investment would be in infrastructure in the US in order to keep up with the plan of President-elect Donald Trump.

The Qatari sovereign fund, headed by the Emir of the country, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, was established in 2005 to run the surpluses of oil and natural gas as a strategy to decrease the margin of risk associated with energy prices.

Last week, the fund announced it had bought shares of Russia’s oil giant Rosneft for $11.3 billion.

No details have been yet announced by the fund about its annual profits gained from its domestic and foreign investment portfolio.
