Egyptian MP calls for alliance with Gulf States to confront Iran

December 21, 2016 at 3:03 pm

The Chairman of the Arab Affairs Committee in the Egyptian Parliament has called for an alliance between Egypt and the Gulf States to confront what he called Iran’s regional interference. “It is difficult for any of these countries to confront Iran alone,” explained Saad El-Gammal MP, “so we must form an alliance.”

During its meeting on Tuesday, El-Gammal pointed out, his committee concluded that the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 under the pretext of the war on terror was when the roots of terrorism were planted in the region. This has led to the current chaos in Iraq.

The MP also called for a media campaign to expose wrongful practices in Iraq and unjustified interference in politics, as well as the sponsorship of violence against the Iraqi people.

El-Gammal stressed the importance of helping the Iraqi government and people to affirm the concept of citizenship and nation-building and the rejection of discrimination between citizens in all its forms. There must be respect for the principles of human rights and international conventions, he added.
