Russia would not allow Israel to fight Hezbollah from Syria, Russian News Agency (TASS) reported yesterday, quoting Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Speaking at a press conference, Peskov denied reports by the Qatar-based TV channel Al Jazeera claiming that Moscow would allow Israel to strike Hezbollah from Syrian airspace.

Al Jazeera citing a source close to the Israeli prime minister.

“I cannot comment on the information. This has nothing to do with reality,” Peskov said in response to a question over the allegations’ credibility during the press conference.

“This theme was not discussed,” the presidential spokesman stressed, adding: “There is no talk about that.”

He explained that the meeting between the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed Israel’s security and the Syria issue. It also included a number of bilateral issues, such as the ongoing military coordination between the two countries to ensure their forces don’t clash over Syria’s skies.

Netanyahu arrived in Moscow early yesterday for his third meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in a year.
