A trilateral Sunni coalition was formed after a number of prominent Iraqi figures met to discuss the future of Sunnis in the country, AlKhaleejOnline reported yesterday, quoting a source close to the coalition.

On Wednesday, 25 Iraqi Sunni leaders met in the Turkish capital Ankara, where they declared the formation of the new Iraqi Sunni coalition named “Coalition of Iraqi National Forces”.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added that the conference was held under the patronage of the Gulf States and Turkey, noting that the alliance was emanated by an executive committee and a leading board. The chairmanship of the coalition will be for one year in rotation.

The coalition aims to unify the Iraqi Sunni forces in one bloc, in preparation for the upcoming election, the source explained, adding that there are many attempts to pressure the Iraqi government.
