Jordan’s King Abdullah II stressed Sunday on the necessity for activating joint Arab cooperation and unifying Arab ranks at this “critical” stage, Jordan New Agency (Petra) reported.  He said that the joint action would empower the Arab countries to counter the regional challenges amid the current global political changes.

The King’s remarks came during his meeting with the delegation of the Council for Arab and International Relations on Sunday held in the Jordanian capital Amman, where they discussed a number of regional issues, and the ways to address these challenges, as quoted by Petra.

He reaffirmed that the issues of Jerusalem and the Palestine cause, Syria, Iraq, Libya and the fight against extremism and terrorism, would top the Arab summit’s agenda which will be held later this month in Jordan.

During the meeting, King Abdullah called for ending the deadlock in the Palestinian-Israeli peace process and re-launching serious and effective negotiations to open political prospects towards a just and comprehensive solution based on the two-state solution, which he believes to be the only solution to end the conflict between both sides.

According to Petra, the meeting also discussed the crisis experienced by some of the Arab countries and the ways to address them, in addition to the regional and global efforts in fighting terrorism within a holistic strategy.

The council’s delegation, who hailed the king’s efforts to bolster and institutionalize joint Arab action, support pan-Arab causes at the various global gatherings and achieve regional peace and stability, was headed by Mohammad Al-Saqer, the council chairman, who was accompanied by some of its members, including former Iraqi Prime Minister, Iyad Allawi, former Lebanese premier, Fuad Sinioura, former Jordanian Prime Minister, Taher Masri, and the former Arab League Secretary-General, Amr Moussa.

The Kuwait-based Council for Arab and International Relations is an independent non-profit national institution. Its members comprise senior Arab figures and experts in Arab and international relations, and supports Arab decision-making by providing opinion and data.

Jordan is set to host the Arab summit on 29 March, after Yemen has apologised last October to host it as a result of the strained political situation in country.
