Abdel Wahab Al-Qaid, a member of the Tripoli based Libya National Council representing southern Libya, has accused military general Mohamed bin Nayel of attempting to destabilise the southern region of the country.

In an interview on the Libyan TV channel, Al-Tanasuh, Qaid said southern residents are being terrorised by militia warplanes flying above the area. He added that the people of the south would never allow Nayel to enter their areas.

Qaid said that southern people had resisted the idea of operating security checkpoints where women and children would be searched and property like mobile phones could be confiscated. He stressed that Nayel and his mercenaries were being financially supported by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar in a bid to turn the southern region into a besieged town like Benghazi.

Qaid, who is also a member of the Libyan Fighting Group, said Brigade 201 and the Third Force have taken control of the southern area and of the Tamanhint Base. He praised the brigades who he said had the full support of the southern people.
