Heavy rain fall in southern Yemen has killed 18 people, Reuters has reported.

The rain flooded Al-Maqatra Wadi in the Lahij province, south west of Ta’iz city. Cars and vehicles were seen floating away in the floodwater through the streets.

“The bodies of ten people have been found and a search is continuing for the other eight,” an official told Reuters.

The floods and damage caused by them will further exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in the country which has been gripped by war for three years.

Yemen is also suffering from the outbreak of the worst cholera crisis in the world, according to the World Health Organisation.

In a statement released earlier this week, the WHO said 565,041 suspected cases of cholera have been recorded in the country since 27 April.
