Four members of the Yemeni army were killed and three others were injured today when a mine planted by the Houthis exploded in the central province of Al-Bayda.

In a post on Facebook, the media centre of the resistance in the province said that the Houthis were planting mines along the main roads.

The centre added that the explosion killed four army officials and wounded three others, no details were given about how severe the injuries were.

Impoverished Yemen has remained in a state of civil war since 2014, when Houthi rebels overran much of the country, including the capital Sana’a and the province of Al-Bayda.

In 2015, Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies launched a massive air campaign aimed at reversing Houthi military gains and shoring up Yemen’s embattled government.

According to UN officials, more than 10,000 people have been killed in the war, while more than 11 per cent of the country’s population has been displaced.
