Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz yesterday received a member of the Polisario National Secretariat, Mustafa El Sayed, in his capacity as special envoy of the Polisario Secretary-General.
The Mauritanian news agency did not give any details about the meeting which was held in the presidential palace in Nouakchott
The visit comes a few weeks after the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Horst Köhler, visited the region, including Morocco, Algeria and the Saharawi refugee camps in Tindouf, southwestern Algeria, as well as Mauritania.
Mauritania has reiterated its neutral position with regards to the conflict in Western Sahara.
The United Nations has been mediating talks between Morocco and the Polisario in search of solution to the dispute over the region.
