Egyptian minor puts his kidney up for sale

A ten-year-old Egyptian boy has decided to offer his kidney for sale to get medication for his sick grandmother.

Mohammed Hamed, who resides in Egypt’s Sharkeya province, offered his kidney for sale to a number of people in the neighbouring villages to get the necessary medical treatment for his sick grandmother and to repair his family’s house.

The minor said he was grateful for his grandmother who had taken care of him after the death of his father.

The story gained widespread coverage in Egypt with a local TV channel published a video of Mohammed’s story. As a result, rights groups have set up fundraising pages online in an effort to help him and his family while others have called on local businessmen to fund his education.
