The Israeli Chief of Staff hinted yesterday at the possibility of launching a full-scale war against Syria to prevent the imposition of Shia hegemony in Israel’s neighbour. Lieutenant-General Gadi Eisenkot made his comments at the University of Herzliya and accused the Iranian government of working to form a “Shia crescent” to spread its influence across Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Bahrain and the Gaza Strip.

“In recent months, investment in the Palestinian arena has also grown,” explained Eisenkot, “driven by a desire to influence it by increasing the annual funding in the Gaza Strip for Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements to $100 million.”

Citing data from Israeli intelligence, the senior officer said Syria currently hosts about 2,000 Iranian advisers and 8,000 fighters from Lebanon’s Hezbollah. There are also 10,000 militants under Iranian influence from countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

“We cannot ignore that Hezbollah, Shia militias and Iran find themselves on the victorious side of Syria alongside President Bashar Al-Assad,” Eisenkot insisted. “We are making military and international efforts in other areas to prevent Iran from establishing its presence in Syria… and an Iranian foothold in Syria would be a negative thing for both Israel and Syria itself as well as Europe.” Israel, he suggested, may become a member of a very broad coalition that will aim to prevent the imposition of Shia hegemony in Syria.

The Israeli government has accused Iran repeatedly of being the most important international force to support terrorism and destabilise the Middle East. This view is shared by the United States as well as Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies.

Interesting that it is these Iranians and Shi’ite “militants” who have saved so many Christian lives in Syria. As opposed to the “rebels” (mostly Saudi-paid Islamic mercenaries) who have murdered over 100,000 Christians there. If this is the result of Iranian involvement, then I am all for it.

    • Pounce

Yet in Iraq, those Shi’a militias are now gunning down Christians.

      • Tom Tom

        Sorry, but nope.

    • Charly Garcia

Trolling about those criminal ragheads called Shiahs from the Iranian Garlicdom doesn’t justify the mass murder of Kurds, Sunnie Arabs, Turkmen, Druse and Chistians…nobody will buy your BS, nasty pro-pedophile ayatollahs’ militant.

      • Wang Dung Chung

Sorry Garcia you must be clueless as to what has been going on in the region. Small minds are like empty vessels and they make the most noise

        • Charly Garcia

My Chinese troll: being a Jew myself and follow up closely daily events in the ME doesn’t make ”clueless” as you stated…I live in America, not in mainland China where censorship is even worst than Iran, and here we have news at first hand, more than you read in Mandarin in the news.

          • Tom Tom

            american media is propaganda, too.

          • Charly Garcia

I said I live in America, but my info is from Israel not from US news. Read properly.

    • I have a Christian friend from Syria (his family still lives there, in fact), and apparently he is very supportive of Assad, and strongly resents foreign interference in his country.

Do most Christians around the world support Assad? Probably not. But I would gamble that most Christians in his own country probably do.

      • Tom Tom

        Yep!

      • justaminute

if they are true Christians and read the Script and follow Christ words (Christ gave many warnings about the jews and never said anything good about them) they would never support israel(fake). israel is gog

    • Tom Tom

      Israeli’s hate Christians.

      • Charly Garcia

Wrong: inform yourself better before opening your worthless mouth.

        • Tom Tom

          says the worthless mouth.

    • alejandro casalegno

Yeah…..Israel occuped South Lebanon………and the Hezbollah rise, bad choice

  • Charly Garcia

Syria – as you knew it – never will be again the same…we will see three States emerging from her….and Russia will watch the other side, while Iran will suffer heavy losses. You’ll see.

    • itchyvet

      You wish.

      • Charly Garcia

        No wish, just facts.

  • Kaminoyona

So you enjoy the propaganda I see.

There are limits to how far the americans will go after the Iraq debacle. In Syria they have engaged the less costly proxy war option, which can be run on the cheap. But the US-backed YPG really can’t cross the Euphrates without confronting Russia and Turkey. A minor invasion from the south to cut of the overland supply route from Iraq/Iran to Syria might be doable with Jordan on board. The YPG failed to do this, but the Israeli’s perhaps can. Doing so helps Israel against Hezbollah and tightens the screws on Syria a little further in advance of diplomatic negotiations on the future of Syria.

  • Israel and Syria should honestly sign a peace treaty of some kind, maybe involving the return of the Golan Heights in exchange for a permanent non-aggression pact of some kind — and a mutual promise not to interfere in each others’ internal affairs ever again, nor allow other powers to do so.

    • John Gregory

Jews don’t do business that way. “No refunds, no exchanges”. And who in their right mind would sign a treaty with jews?

      • itchyvet

Very similar to signing something with America.

        • Charly Garcia

America is more reliable than the terrorist pedophile ragheads.

          • itchyvet

YES, there can be no dispute, that the ONE thing America can be most certainly be relied upon, is to break every agreement it ever agrees too. Secondly, those pedophile ragheads you’r talking about, are the U.S. warriors doing their dirty work, so if your going to talk about pedophiles, I guess no one would have more experience with that, than many Americans these days, going by the reports we read in the media. L.O.L.

      • Kaminoyona

        Who would sign with Muslims?
they never live up to the deals and use loopholes and subterfuge.
Not to mention Islam has a law stating you may lie to your enemies…….

  • evsw

Warmongering Israel threatening war again! I think conflict is the Zionists favourite sport.

“We need to use our diplomatic and more traditional intelligence assets to bring pressure on the governments of Qatar and Saudi Arabia, which are providing clandestine financial and logistic support to ISIS and other radical groups in the region,” – a State Department memo dated August 2014 and released October 2016.

  • Please do attack Syria full on………SOME AMONG US would love an opportunity to turn Tel Aviv and surrounds into GLASS,

  • “I knew that I could never again raise my voice against the violence of the oppressed in the ghettos without having first spoken clearly to the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today – my own government.” – Martin Luthor King – So, who are the terrorists?

    • Kaminoyona

over 80% of the worlds conflicts involve Islam.

So what does that tell you?

      • Land of Cali

I think you mean monotheistic judeo-christian-islam!!!!! 99% of the worlds violence! Those old world Neanderthals-albinos!

  • alejandro casalegno

Worthless words………Russia, Hezbollah and Iran saved Syria……….the “Regime Change” it´s over, US, Israel and the saudis are defeated…….enjoy it!!!!

    • Charly Garcia

Wait!! You’ll see the butcher’s head rolling down the street.

The World will not take the Palestinian cause seriously until Palestinians and Arabs do so; this will mean, that all Palestinians and Arabs must wake up; they must rise as lions, they must physically converge upon Palestine with the intention of reclaiming that which is rightly theirs, they must even just walk and march, if no means of transport is available, in large numbers, they must physically take themselves back to their rightful homes and possessions. This is a big ask, but the prize for success could not be larger; you will face extreme opposition to your return, there will be bullets bombs and explosives used to stop you, many will die, BUT, have we not noticed, many have been dying, over just the last fifty years, and that will continue for the next fifty years, unless Palestinians and Arabs rise-up and honour their Nations history, proven and endured in peace for these many millennia past; Rise-up I say, and caring people of the World will rise up with you. Do not pause because you think President Trump will be your saviour, he will not, he is a false prophet. We have witnessed the recent invasions of refugees into Europe from the Middle East; did you notice? they could not be stopped, they marched single mindedly with one intention, to live somewhere else, and they have succeeded. Palestinians and Arabs must emulate that example, go peaceably, but go, go in the supreme certainty that your cause is just, and go in the knowledge that “Ye are many and they are few”. If your current leaders will not organise and support this, then, they are not worthy, get some new ones who will. You must also realise, this message is the last “call”, the last chance to establish your future survival. Amen.

…”accused the Iranian government of working to form a “Shia crescent”…. Well, no shi’ite, Sherlock!

But you’ve actually allowed this situation to occur due to your larger plans for destroying Russia and the U.S. Good luck with that. You’ll still have China to contend with at Armageddon, but Jesus wins.

  • itchyvet

Lisa, I agree with your post, for many years now, Israel has stolen Syrian land and resources continually attempting to steal even more. They have tried to get all the Arab nations surrounding them to fight each other and become weaker so ultimately, Israel could attack them in the weaker state and steal more. However, that plan has backfired immensely with the inclusion of Russia onto the scene. We now have a very hardy and exceptional competent Syrian military after waging war for 6 years, they know know how to fight properly. Same goes for Iran who have assisted Syria, though Iran did have previous experience with Iraq, and of course Hezballah, who have also become a fully fledged military body out of all this. Then we have Israel, who have been given a massive bloody nose recently, proving they are not half as clever or efficient as they like to claim, besides Israel always gets someone else to do the dirty work for them, such as ISIS or the Americans.
Personally, I suspect the Israeli military is terrified of the Syrian/Iraninan/Hezbollah combination, that’s why they are fomenting another war, hoping the Yanks do the fighting for them, AGAIN.

  • Kaminoyona

Propaganda and nonsense, Israel will continue to target and destroy any threats to her.

    Hezbollah and Iran are threats.
