Saudi prince sacked after criticising arrests

Saudi Prince Abdullah Bin Saud Al-Saud was relieved of his post as president of the Saudi Arabia Marine Sports Federation (CMAS) after releasing an audio recording in which he contradicted the authorities’ reasons for arresting 11 princes last week, Russia’s Sputnik news agency reported yesterday.

In an audio recording, the Prince described the authorities’ reasons as “completely false” and fabricated.

As a result, Chairman of the Saudi General Sport Authority, Turki Al-Sheikh, issued a decision on Tuesday, sacking Prince Abdullah from his post. He will be replaced by Army General Hamad Al-Jaid, Saudi’s Okaz newspaper reported.

According to the agency, the decision to dismiss the prince came on the order of Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.

Bloomberg news agency revealed the names of some of the 11 Saudi princes who were arrested last week for allegedly protesting against austerity measures introduced by the Kingdom.

According to the American agency, the owners of Almarai, Saudi Arabia’s largest dairy company, are among those who were detained.
