Hamas’s branch in Lebanon has stated that initial indications point to the involvement of Israeli hands behind the assassination attempt on Hamas official Mohammed Hamdan.
In a statement, the movement reported that Hamdan, who is a Palestinian refugee residing in Lebanon, was targeted by a bombing yesterday afternoon in the city of Sidon.
Hamas noted that the explosion led to wounds in Hamdan’s leg, the destruction of his car, and damage to the building.
Official Lebanese officials in Sidon reported a car bombing in the Bustan al-Kabir neighbourhood, amid talk of a Hamas activist having been targeted.
The device was detonated once he opened his car door. Security officials in the city stated that Hamdan was injured in the explosion, who was then transported to the hospital.

According to Al-Mayadeen TV (which broadcasts from Lebanon), an Israeli plane was flying over Sidon when the explosion occurred. The explosion took place in the same place the Majzoub brothers were assassinated by Israel in 2006.
While Hamdan underwent surgery in a Sidon hospital, during which his leg was amputation, Lebanese security forces reinforced their measures and presence at the explosion site and imposed a tight security cordon.
