Arab MK Zoabi removed from Knesset after criticising Israel army

February 13, 2018 at 9:35 am

Arab Member of the Israeli Knesset Hanin Zoabi was forced out of a parliamentary session after she criticised violence committed by occupation forces against Palestinians, Arab48 reported yesterday.

During a meeting for the Knesset’s Education Committee, Zoabi, from the Arab Joint List, criticised Israeli occupation forces who kill Palestinians.

“A person is a murderer even if he committed murder just once in his life,” she said, “so that’s what we can call the army, which murders occasionally and not every day of its life.”

Chairman of the Education Committee Yakov Margi responded to Zoabi: “Israeli soldiers are not murderers. They are operating in an impossible reality.”

Before leaving the room, Zoabi asked to take her belongings, but extremist MK Shuli Moalem-Refaeli from the Jewish Home party said: “Perhaps you left some of your stuff on the Marmara, too.”

Moalem-Refaeli was referring to the Turkish ship which attempted to break the Israeli siege on Gaza in 2010; Zoabi was on board the flotilla. Israeli commandoes attacked the ship, killing ten Turks.

The committee had been meeting to discuss a bill which would give the education minister power to ban left-wing organisations from entering schools.
