Palestinian minor Ahed Tamimi will be tried in a closed court after the military judge ordered all journalists to leave the court room today.

Following the judge’s announcement, security officials quickly emptied the court of all bystanders before Ahed was brought into court.

The 17-year-old was arrested on 19 December during an overnight raid that was carried out in Ramallah’s northern village of Nabi Saleh. She was 16 at the time of her arrest. She was detained after a video of her forcing Israeli occupation soldiers off her family’s property went viral on social media.

Both her mother and cousin were arrested shortly afterwards.

The Tamimi family of Nabi Saleh is well known internationally for their activism against the Israeli occupation.
