Israel army launching special anti-Iran body

July 3, 2018 at 11:25 am

Israel has launched a special military body to confront Iran, Hebrew media reported today.

According to Maariv, the Head of Central Command, Major General Nitzan Alon, was appointed director of the new department.

Alon travelled to the US last weekend and attended meetings with senior US military officials, including US Army Chief of Staff Joseph Manford.

This is the first time the Israeli army has appointed a director to confront Iran.

The task of the new body is to coordinate moves against the Tehran nuclear project, focusing on intelligence gathering, fighting the Iranian position in Syria, and coordinating with the US to carry out these tasks, according to the paper.

“Alon will also be responsible for the relationship between the Israeli defence establishment and the American establishment,” Maariv said. “The United States and Israel are closely coordinating the Iranian issue, and the two countries are not hiding their desire to topple the Ayatollah Khamenei regime.”

Israel has repeatedly called for sanctions against Tehran.
