The judiciary official added that the prisoners forcefully opened the gates of Ain Zara prison and that the prison guards could not stop them.
Local Libyan media outlets had reported on Sunday morning that an armed group broke into the prison and freed its inmates, including members of the ousted regime of Moammar Qaddafi.
