Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation banned Mortada Mansour, the head of the Zamalek sporting club, from appearing in the media.

The council said in a statement that it received a recommendation from the Media Performance Monitoring Committee about two incidents in which Mansour appeared on 12 and 27 September on Pyramids satellite channel, which is owned by the Saudi investor Turki Al-Sheikh.

“We have received a recommendation regarding insults and violations of freedom of expression, opinion, as well as moral and social values” by a sportsperson who uttered abusive statements towards others in public.

The African Football Confederation (CAF) also announced its decision to suspend Mansour for a full year, and ordered him to pay a fine of $40,000, while the Egyptian Olympic Committee has also suspended Mansour.
