Minister of Youth and Sports Rachid Talbi El-Alami said yesterday that Morocco is ready ready to submit its application to host the 2026 World Cup.

At a press conference in the capital of Rabat, El-Alami said: “Morocco is determined to win the organisation’s bid for the most famous sports competition in the world.”

He added that “the file includes existing stadiums and other proposed ones, as well as other commitments similar to what was included in the Qatari file.”

“The financial cost of completing the projects has been estimated at between 8 and 10 billion dirhams [between $880 million and $1.1 billion],” he said, adding that “the Moroccan team responsible to prepare Morocco’s candidacy file is working continuously, and is determined to win the bid.”

Morocco is competing to host the 2026 World Cup alongside a joint bid by the US, Canada and Mexico. FIFA members are expected to vote on a decision on 13 June.

“I will spare no effort to support the Moroccan file in the 2026 World Cup,” said Ahmad Ahmad, president of the African Football Confederation (CAF).
