Yousef: Qatar is helping save Gaza

October 11, 2018 at 3:06 pm

Dr Essam Yousef, head of the Popular International Committee to Support Gaza, expressed his gratitude and appreciation of the State of Qatar for its continued support for the besieged Gaza Strip.

In a statement issued today, Yousef said the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani’s orders to provide urgent support for those besieged in Gaza expresses his deep concern and moral commitment to providing relief to Palestinians living under siege in the Gaza Strip.

“Qatar is playing a clear and concrete role in the context of the extraordinary efforts to save Gaza from the consequences of the siege, which has reached the level of a humanitarian disaster. This is after the people’s living conditions reached a level causing concern that an explosion will occur and have a tragic impact on the people of Gaza and a negative effect on the region and the world,” said Yousef.

He added, “At a time when the issue of the siege, which has become a card played in political arenas, is witnessing major complications, the international community is reluctant to provide support to Gaza. It is overlooking the humanitarian aspects that lie in the real suffering of two million people whose living conditions are deteriorating day by day.”

He called on all the Arab and Muslim countries to provide political and humanitarian support to the Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip, given the extremely difficult conditions they are suffering from and to take urgent action to prevent disaster.

He also called on the international community to put an end to the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and to work immediately to lift the siege imposed on its people.

The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) announced yesterday that it has pledged $150 million in emergency humanitarian aid to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, which has been under siege for years.

Earlier this week, the first truckload of Qatari-funded fuel entered the besieged Gaza Strip via the Kerem Shalom (Karm Abu Salem) border crossing.
