Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh said yesterday evening that the Palestinian resistance is defended itself and the Palestinian people from the Israeli aggression, a statement posted on Hamas’ website said.

“As usual, the Palestinian people protected the Palestinian resistance with much pride and patience,” Haniyeh said.

Apparently responding to the statement of the Israeli cabinet, which concluded a seven-hour meeting on the strike on the besieged Gaza Strip, he added: “We will return to the ceasefire understandings if the occupation ceases its aggression.”

The Israeli cabinet decided to halt the Israeli airstrikes in Gaza and said that it would carry out attacks “as needed”.

Israel has been bombarding the Gaza Strip with airstrikes since Sunday night killing 14 Palestinians and injuring more than 35. The bombing destroyed a number of residential buildings and the headquarters of the Al-Aqsa satellite TV channel.
