Two senior Israeli security officers were put on trial yesterday in a case that sees them suspected of smuggling hash into Israel, Arab48  reported.

The Israeli Magistrate’s Court in Jerusalem extended the detention of Rami Yogev, a senior security officer at the Israeli airlines El Al, over charges of using his position to smuggle hash into Israel.

The court also extended the detention of his son, Shalon, a former officer at the national carrier El Al and the Israeli intelligence agency Shabak. Two others saw their detention extended.

During the hearing, members of the international investigative unit at Israel Police raided Yogiv’s office in the security department of El Al airlines.

Israeli media reported, according to Arab48, an informed source saying that probes into the case started after hash was found onboard a flight from Johannesburg, South Africa, to Israel. Initial probes show that Yogev helped board the hash on to the plane.
