Iraq to suspend previous government’s rulings

Former Iraqi prime minister Haider Al-Abadi has criticised the new Iraqi cabinet vote to suspend all decisions made by his government during the period extending from 1 July until 24 October.

Al-Abadi warned in a statement that the new cabinet’s decision will establish a dangerous precedent and will cause a state of confusion, noting that the new government headed by Adeil Abdul-Mahdi is incomplete, some of its ministers are questionable while their selection mechanism is marred by constitutional irregularities.

According to Al-Abadi, some of the decisions that have been stopped serve Iraqi citizens, including stopping financial support to the poor in Basra and the establishment of desalination plants in the province.

The province of Basra witnessed violent protests in September due to the lack of services including water and electricity and high unemployment.
