Algeria’s president, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, yesterday renewed his country’s “constant” support to the Palestinian cause.

“Algeria will continue to support the Palestinian people in their struggle to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital,” Bouteflika stressed in a congratulatory message to the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, which he sent on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of the outbreak of the January 1st revolution.

The Algerian president hailed what he described as “the steadfastness and patience of the Palestinian people to end the occupation.”

“On the occasion of the 54th anniversary of the eruption of the glorious January 1st Revolution, I am pleased to convey to you, on behalf of Algeria the people, government and self-image, my warmest congratulations and best wishes,” he said.

“I take this opportunity to pay tribute to the Palestinian martyrs who died to live a free and independent Palestine,” Bouteflika pointed out.
