Senior Hamas leader in Gaza, Isam Al-Daalis, said yesterday that the quickest way to achieve calm in the coastal enclave is to lift the 12-year-old Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip.

Al-Daalis added that Israel must also commit to the latest understandings sponsored by Egypt and the UN, Safa news agency reported. The senior Hamas leader then stressed that Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, “knows very well the price which he could pay if [Israel] continued breaching the understandings”.

His comments came during a trilateral meeting between an Egyptian delegation, the UN representative and head of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh.
