Family: Daughter of PFLP leader Khalida Jarrar died of natural causes

The daughter of the iconic PFLP leader Khalida Jarrar, Suha Ghassan Jarrar, who was found dead near a medical complex in Ramallah, died of natural causes, her family said in a statement.

The Jarrar family said the initial diagnosis indicates that the cause of death was a severe heart attack, noting that she was ill and had experienced minor symptoms in the past.

Khalida Jarrar, MP of the leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), was arrested in her home in Ramallah on 31 October 2019 and charged with “assuming a position in the PFLP, which is banned by the Israeli military”. She is currently serving a two-year sentence.

According to the family’s statement, lawyers are trying to secure her early release so she could attend her daughter’s burial.

Meanwhile, a Palestinian Police spokesman expressed “deep regret” that the deceased’s identity card had been circulated by unofficial parties, adding that an investigation had been opened into the incident.

“The Palestinian police will prosecute anyone found responsible for releasing the deceased’s identity photo and name without any respect for her privacy and the privacy of her mother, who is imprisoned in the [Israeli] occupation’s prisons, and even before she was informed of her daughter’s death,” he added.
