A report issued on Friday by the Egyptian Network for Human Rights (ENHR) accused the administration of Tora Prison of causing the death of political prisoner Tajuddin Abdel-Qader Allam, The New Khaleej news website reported.

Allam was announced dead due to suffering a heart attack inside his prison cell in the Tora Prison on Monday.

The ENHR documented Allam’s sufferings and complaints across a number of days prior to his death, pointing out that he suffered from stress, pain and exhaustion followed by a severe heart attack.

According to the report, fellow inmates heard screaming inside his cell, knocked loudly at the door and called for medical help, however, no help arrived.

It had been known that Allam suffered from severe heart pains due to medical complications.

However, he was given medical notice to be admitted to a hospital outside the prison, but the prison administration procrastinated his transfer, the report revealed, noting that his mistreatment aggravated his illness leading to his death. “This happens to many patient and elderly prisoners,” the report stated.

Referred by the National Security Services, Allam was detained in department number one, dubbed “the cemetery of prisoners”.
