Islamic Jihad yesterday condemned the detention campaign carried out by the Palestinian Authority (PA) against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank saying it only serves Israel’s interests, Quds Press reported.

In an interview with the news site, the movement’s head in Lebanon, Shakib El-Ayna, condemned the PA’s campaign against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, accusing the authority’s security services of “carrying out the mission of the Israeli occupation.”

“The PA’s detention of Palestinians does not serve anyone more than the Israeli occupation. At the same time, these detentions do not serve the national interests.”

“These detentions deepen division among the Palestinian people, mainly because they are targeting symbolic Palestinian figures,” he explained.

He went on to slam Israel’s “fierce campaign” targeting his movement’s prisoners inside Israeli jails after six prisoners escaped from the high security Gilboa  Prison in September. He stressed that the occupation’s actions will not lead prisoners “to surrender or break their will, but will reinforce their persistence to get their freedom.”
