A US military patrol attempted on Monday to enter areas controlled by Syrian regime forces in the area around Qamishli, in the north-east of Syria, Anadolu has reported.

According to anonymous local sources, three American armoured vehicles tried to enter the regime-controlled village of Khirbet Ammo near Qamishli. This prompted the forces and militias loyal to the regime of Bashar Al-Assad stationed on the edge of the village to fire warning shots into the air. The vehicles apparently withdrew shortly afterwards.

This is not the first time that such harassment has been seen. In December, Anadolu reported that US forces had tried on dozens of occasions to enter areas in and around Qamishli over the previous couple of months. The US troops generally pulled up opposite regime checkpoints and stayed for hours, leaving only after regime forces gathered in the same place.

On 12 February last year, a Syrian soldier was killed in clashes with American troops who tried to enter the village of Khirbet Ammo.
