Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir arms Israeli settlers in occupied West Bank

Far-right Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir personally hands out weapons to illegal Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank. The loosening of rules is designed to make it easier for settlers to get hold of weapons following Israel's war on Gaza and Hamas' surprise attack on 7 October 2023.

Israeli National Security Minister Ben-Gvir distributed assault rifles to illegal Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank yesterday.

This came after Ben-Gvir announced last week that his ministry had bought 10,000 rifles to arm settler militias.

He called the militias “security teams” which would be based around Israel’s “borders” and the illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.

In addition to the assault rifles, helmets and bulletproof vests have also been obtained and will be distributed.

“We will turn the world upside down so that towns are protected. I have given instructions for massively arming the civilian security teams to provide solutions for towns and cities, and so as not to leave towns unprotected,” said Ben-Gvir.

Settler attacks on Palestinians and their properties have intensified since 7 October when Israel launched an air raid campaign against the Gaza Strip in response to the surprise infiltration of Israeli towns around Gaza by the the Palestinian resistance. Israel says more than 200 people were taken hostage on that day, while the Palestinian resistance has said that more than 22 have been killed in Israel’s bombing of Gaza.
