America’s logic for supporting Zionists

After numerous failed attempts to reach a ceasefire deal that ends the brutal Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip, a truce proposal was put on the table by Egypt.

The proposal stipulates the gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, the return of a certain number of displaced Palestinians from the south of the Strip to their homes in the north, the release of Israeli and Palestinian prisoners and a potential end of the war.

The Palestinian Resistance Movement Hamas said that the proposal includes “positive” gestures, but said it would study it and give its response later — likely today.

Many in the Israeli and Arab media as well as analysts and experts expected a positive response from Hamas with some reservations that might not kill the proposal, but lead to further negotiations.

The Palestinian Resistance Movement wants to end the genocide, return families who have been forcibly displaced during this genocide to their homes and allow the entry of tents or makeshift homes for them and for the lifting of restrictions on the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has been lying and trying to persuade the world that his army is not carrying out a genocide, but practicing self-defence without any violations of the international laws and conventions, insists clearly that he will not accept the deal.

Netanyahu keeps saying that he will order occupation forces to storm Gaza’s southernmost city of Rafah and destroy it, as the army did in the other cities across Gaza. This means that he insists on carrying out more crimes even if the Palestinian resistance releases all the Israeli prisoners of war.

“The idea that we will halt the war before achieving all of its goals is out of the question. We will enter Rafah and we will eliminate the Hamas battalions there – with or without a deal, in order to achieve total victory,” his office quoted him saying.

Of course, when he mentions Hamas he means all Palestinian people, including women, children, the elderly and patients. This is what he has been doing since the start of his genocide.

For the sake of appeasing the Israeli occupation, most world leaders are only concerned with the release of the 133 Israeli prisoners of war held by the Palestinian resistance. They do not mention the 9,500 Palestinian prisoners enduring harsh conditions inside Israeli jails, ignoring them as if they are not humans.

“I held a call with President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi of Egypt and a call with Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar to discuss reaching a deal to secure the release of hostages together with an immediate ceasefire in Gaza,” US President Joe Biden wrote on X.

Netanyahu, his aides and government coalition partners have repeatedly and loudly responded to Biden’s proposed ceasefire deals saying they will not accept them and promising to inflict more suffering on the Palestinians.

Biden then blames Hamas for asking to make the deal sustainable, claiming that this is the obstacle to reaching a ceasefire deal.

“The United States will work with Egypt and Qatar to ensure the full implementation of the terms of the deal, and exert all efforts to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas which is now the only obstacle to an immediate ceasefire and relief for civilians in Gaza,” Biden wrote on X.

Hamas has not been seeking a ceasefire deal that guarantees reconstruction of what the Israeli occupation destroyed in Gaza, lifting the 18-year-old siege imposed on the coastal enclave or the release of all Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails. It is simply asking for Israel’s bombing campaign to cease, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and for the free delivery of aid. All other matters would be discussed in the next stage of negotiations.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu and his international backers, mainly the US, want a deal that ensures the release of the Israeli prisoners of war held in Gaza and one that allows them to then continue their genocide and destruction of Gaza.

The US and its Western allies, including the UK, Germany, France and others, proved that they are ready to serve the Zionist occupation state even at the expense of their peoples and principles.

Crackdowns on student protests across US and European universities are clear examples of this. The US is even working to enshrine into law the controversial and inaccurate definition of anti-Semitism created by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), which critics have said has been set up to target and silence human rights groups like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch (HRW) and others documenting Israel’s human rights abuses.
