Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted Tel Aviv had tried and failed to distribute aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip through local tribes, Hebrew media reported.
This came during a closed session of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Security Committee, which was held against the backdrop of the escalation in the north, according to Israel Hayom newspaper.
Netanyahu said: “There was an attempt to allow the tribes in Gaza to distribute humanitarian aid, but it did not succeed.”
He pointed out that he is “against military control” over the Gaza Strip, adding, “we will find other solutions.” He provided no details of what suitable solutions may be, whoever he added: “Control over humanitarian aid is a key element in defeating Hamas.”
Last March, the Palestinian Tribes, Clans and Families Gathering in Gaza said in a statement that the tribes are not “an alternative to any Palestinian political system” but rather are a component of the national components and “supporters of the resistance and protection of the home front” in the face of Israel.
