Israeli Minister of Energy Eli Cohen has called for the gas agreement with Lebanon to be cancelled, describing it as a “mistake”.
“Israel is looking for a loophole to cancel the scandalous gas agreement with Lebanon,” Cohen posted on X yesterday.
In late 2022, Lebanon and Israel signed an agreement to demarcate their maritime borders after two years of indirect negotiations mediated by the US.
The dispute involved an area of 860 square kilometres that is rich in oil and natural gas in the Mediterranean Sea.
After the agreement, international energy companies began submitting bids to explore the maritime blocks located in Lebanese territorial waters.
