The Sudanese Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday that 50 new cases of cholera infections have been recorded across the five states of Sudan. This takes the total number of people in the country with cholera since August to 28,376, including 836 who have died of the disease, Anadolu has reported.
According to the ministry, the rate of cholera infections has decreased in most Sudanese states, while no new deaths have been reported. The authorities declared on 12 August that there is a cholera epidemic in Sudan.
The health crisis coincides with ongoing turmoil due to the war between the Sudanese Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) since April 2023. More than 20,000 people have been killed in the fighting, with over 14 million displaced, according to the latest data from the UN.
