The Egyptian Supreme State Security Prosecution decided, on Thursday, to detain 38 young men who had been forcibly disappeared for varying periods. They appeared at the State Security Prosecution headquarters, were interrogated, and were all detained for 15 days, pending investigations into several cases.
The prosecution charged them all with various charges including “broadcasting and publishing false news and statements”, “joining a terrorist group and participating in achieving its goals while knowing its objectives”, “misusing social media”, “exploiting the Internet to spread crimes” and “financing and promoting violence”.
The list of detainees who appeared after being subjected to enforced disappearances included Ahmed Bardouli Mahmoud, Ahmed Basyouni Ahmed, Ahmed Zakaria Abdel Qawi, Ahmed Mahmoud Abdel Basset, Ahmed Nafady El-Said, Osama Mohamed Ammar, Akram Ehab Abdel Wahab, Ehab Mohamed Hassan, Badawi Omar Khalifa, Hossam El-Din Kamal Mahmoud, Khaled Mohamed El-Sayed, Khaled Mohamed Abdel Majeed, Sameh Abdel Fattah Abdel Aziz, Sayed Shaaban Abdel Gawad, Abdullah Ahmed Mazroua, Abdullah Mahmoud Sayed, Emad El-Din Mahmoud, Amr Kamal Mohamedin, Fahmy Lotfi Abdel Mohsen and Fouad Abdullah Selim.
It also included Mohamed Saad Abdel Maqsoud, Mohamed Saeed Ahmed, Mohamed Abdel Hay Sharif, Mohamed Abdel Sadek Bahjat, Mohamed Essam Kamal, Mohamed Amr Abu Helo, Mohamed Eid Saleh, Mohamed Fathi Abdel Hamid, Mohamed Kamal Gabr, Mohamed Medhat Morsi, Mahmoud Ahmed El-Sayed, Mahmoud Hossam Ibrahim, Mahmoud Sayed Mohamed, Mahmoud Mohamed Abdullah, Mustafa Fathi Kamel, Mustafa Hashem Makheimer, Hesham Abdel Hadi Ghanem and Yehia Abdullah El-Jarf.
The families of these young Egyptian men had filed reports to the Public Prosecutor, stating that they were forcibly disappeared after being arrested by the security authorities in Egypt.
The same prosecution also decided, on Thursday, to renew the detention of Egyptian journalist, Ahmed Bayoumi, for 15 days, and charged him with several charges, including “joining a terrorist group” and “committing a funding crime”.
