An official Egyptian source denied Israeli media reports yesterday that Cairo is preparing to intervene militarily in Yemen. The source confirmed to Cairo News that such reports and the misleading information they contain are completely baseless.
“Egypt is preparing to strike the Houthis after suffering significant economic losses due to the escalation of threats against the Suez Canal, which is a vital artery for global trade,” claimed the reports. “[Egypt] has shown an increasing desire to play an active role in the Yemeni conflict, with aircraft ready to carry out air operations targeting the Houthis.”
Since the end of November 2023, global shipping companies have changed their course to avoid the Red Sea, after the Houthis targeted Israel-linked ships passing through the waterway, “in response to the ongoing Israeli war against the Gaza Strip.”
Houthi leader, Abdul-Malik Al-Houthi, has previously said that, “The Egyptian army feels threatened by what happened to the Syrian army.” He added that Cairo fears its enemies may be able “to create massive chaos to destroy all Egyptian military capabilities,” according to Al-Masirah TV.
