The Director General of National Security in Morocco (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance (DGST), Abdellatif Hammouchi, held discussions with Spain’s Commissioner General of Intelligence, Javier Antonio Sanz Becerro, yesterday to explore ways to enhance security cooperation, particularly in combating terrorism.

The meeting took place in the Moroccan capital Rabat, where the Spanish official arrived earlier that day for an unannounced visit, according to a statement issued by Morocco’s Directorate General of National Security.

The statement highlighted that the two sides assessed the level of risks and terrorist threats in various conflict zones worldwide, with a particular focus on the Sahel and Sahara region – Mauritania, Chad, Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.

The discussions also addressed strengthening security collaboration, especially in countering terrorism and violent extremism.

Additionally, the officials reviewed the role that DGST could play in joint efforts to ensure the success of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco, Spain and Portugal will host jointly. This includes cooperation in criminal intelligence and mitigating risks to public safety.
