American actor Richard Gere described the situation in the Gaza Strip on Monday as “devastating” and called for “an end to the violence and a guarantee that the ceasefire continues.”
In a video shared by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) on its X account, Gere said: “What is happening in Gaza is heart-breaking. Gaza is facing a tragedy that surpasses any limit of humanity: entire neighbourhoods destroyed, families torn apart, and children growing up amid fear and violence, instead of love and hope.”
He stressed that the “innocent people of Gaza, mostly children and women, are paying an unbearable and unjust price.”
The American actor highlighted that, “amid this devastation, UNRWA has never left, remaining there teaching, healing, and helping people survive day after day.”

“For decades, UNRWA has stood firm, bringing education for children, healthcare for families, and a sense of hope when everything else has been lost,” Gere added.
He explained that UNRWA “continues to work every day so that people can stay alive and hope does not fade away.”
Gere emphasised that “no other organisation can replace what UNRWA does, not in the schools it sustains, nor in the clinics it keeps open, nor in the trust it has built with the communities it serves.”
