The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office said that Israeli authorities have placed writer and political analyst Sari Orabi under administrative detention for six months.
Orabi, a writer for Arabi21, is from the village of Rafat, north of occupied Jerusalem. He was arrested last week as part of a wide arrest campaign in the West Bank and Jerusalem.
He is considered one of the leading writers and researchers in the West Bank and has been arrested several times by Israeli forces since the 1990s.
These developments come amid a rise in violations by the Israeli army and attacks by settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.
On Saturday, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office said that detainees in Israeli prisons are facing dire conditions, which have led to the deaths of 86 prisoners in less than 26 months.
In a statement, the office said it had documented a “concerning” pattern of widespread practices including “torture, medical neglect and enforced disappearance”.
