The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said Tuesday it remains committed to supporting stability in southern Lebanon despite “thousands of Israeli violations since the ceasefire”.
In a statement, the UN peacekeeping force said it continues to operate in line with UN Security Council Resolutions 1701 and 2790, aimed at maintaining security and preventing further escalation.
UNIFIL said it carries out regular patrols, monitors developments along the Blue Line, and reports violations to the Security Council.
“Since the ceasefire, thousands of violations of Resolution 1701 have continued, jeopardising the fragile calm,” the force said.
Resolution 1701, adopted on 11th August 2006, called for a cessation of hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel and established a demilitarised zone between the Blue Line and the Litani River, with only the Lebanese Armed Forces and UNIFIL permitted to operate there.
Resolution 2790, adopted in August 2025, extended UNIFIL’s mandate until 31st August 2026 as part of a gradual drawdown process.
UNIFIL has repeatedly reported that its positions in southern Lebanon have come under Israeli fire and has called for full adherence to the ceasefire, while Israeli violations have continued.
