The UNHCR has warned that more than one million people have been displaced in Lebanon within the past month due to the ongoing Israeli aggression, describing the situation as deeply alarming.
UNHCR spokesperson Babar Baloch said the scale of displacement — representing nearly one-fifth of the country’s population — reflects a rapidly expanding humanitarian crisis.
He explained that Israeli evacuation orders, followed by direct attacks, have triggered continuous internal displacement, with civilians repeatedly forced to move under unstable and dangerous conditions.
According to Baloch, most of the displaced are living in severe hardship, facing economic deprivation and significant psychological trauma, while many are sheltering in overcrowded facilities lacking basic necessities.
The crisis has also extended beyond Lebanon’s borders. More than 200,000 people have fled to Syria over the past month, including around 180,000 Syrian refugees returning and over 20,000 Lebanese nationals.
UNHCR and its partners continue to provide humanitarian assistance, including the distribution of aid to nearly 200,000 people, but the agency warned that needs are rapidly outpacing available resources, affecting both Lebanese citizens and refugee populations.
