Senior EU delegation arrives in Cairo to follow up roadmap

January 30, 2014 at 3:45 am

A European diplomatic convoy arrived in Cairo on Monday morning to get the latest updates on Egypt’s transitional roadmap, which was initially proposed five months ago in the wake of the coup that removed the country’s first democratically elected president.

The convoy is expected to meet with government officials, politicians and independent figures as a follow up to a previous visit, especially after the Committee of Fifty’s announcement that it has almost completed drafting a new Egyptian constitution.

According to a security source at the Cairo International Airport, the convoy is led by Michel Leader, who heads the European Union’s East and West Committee. The source added that around 20 other officials have accompanied him to Cairo.
