A Turkish court has convicted the country’s former Chief of the General Staff to life imprisonment.

Retired General Mehmet İlker Başbuğ was sentenced for his role in the “Ergenekon conspiracy” to overthrow the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
